Free Software Downloads

The following software is free.  Download as much as you want.  Most tools are geared around creating, converting, and burning music or for educational purposes for musicians.   Please report any dead links in the forums along with any suggestions for free software to be featured.  Homerecord will feature free software in the form of Tablature Software, Multitrack Recording Software, VSTs, Mastering Software, Musically Educational Software, and possibly others.  My goal from previous editions of the site featured links to downloads of software that I had actually tested and then uploaded to a specific download site, but the vast array of free software has prevented this.  Now I will feature links to the site's download page and allow you to judge for yourself the authenticity of the software.  It would be a great contribution to the site if you could add your input as to the quality and safety of the software.  More will be added soon, as I am reconstructing the site.  Thank you for the help!

Powertab Tab Editor

Power Tab Editor is a free tablature authoring tool created by Brad Larsen for Windows. It is used to create guitar and bass tablature scores. The current version uses the *.ptb file format.
The Power Tab Editor is able to import MIDI tracks, and can export to ASCII Text, HTML, and MIDI formats. In addition, individual sections may be exported as bitmap files.
The program allows for tablature scores to be created alongside standard musical notation. The software achieves this through the input of tablature.

Audacity is a digital audio editor and recording application. Audacity is cross-platform and is available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and BSD.
Audacity was created by Dominic Mazzoni while a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University. Mazzoni now works at Google, but is still the main developer and maintainer of Audacity, with help from many others around the world.
